Obituary for Dorothy McWhorter (Wallace)

Dorothy McWhorter (Wallace)
Dorothy Ann Wallace Brewington McWhorter, 83, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018. She was born July 13, 1935 in Union County, NC daughter to the late Ray and Myrtle Knight Wallace. She was also preceded in death by two step-sons Roger and Greg McWhorter, a brother Bobby Wallace and sister Lynda Hinson.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, May 11, 2018 at Unity ARP Church, 3495 Unity Church Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. McWhorter is survived by her husband, Henry Franklin McWhorter; son Rodney Brewington and wife Pat of Hampton, VA; step-daughter, Kim Brown and husband Tom of Waxhaw; brother Ronnie Wallace and wife Susie of Waxhaw, two sisters Sara Logan of Waxhaw and Gail Huey and husband Phil of Meridianville, AL.; five grandchildren, Robert Holloway and wife Lisa, Illinois Daniel Holloway and wife Tabitha of Virginia, Brenda, Samuel and Matthew McWhorter all of Waxhaw, four great-grandchildren, Matthew Millington, Caitlin and Christopher Holloway and Justice Valdez.

She was a member of Unity ARP Church, the Montgomery Sunday School Class, Unity Women’s Ministries, and Stewart Circle, which she co-chaired. She assisted in the Nursery Sunday School Class for more than twenty years. She was also a member of the Chancel Choir where she used her lovely alto voice in praise to God.

Dot was a loving daughter, wife, mother, step-mother, sister, and special friend to all who knew her. She was a wonderful seamstress and many brides-to-be, mothers-to-be, family and friends were the recipients of the lovely handmade gifts she made.

To Dot butterflies were one of the most beautiful creations of God. Her home was filled with evidence of this, as were greeting cards, gifts, and any other means which she could use to share their beauty.

Dot was one who loved spending time with her friends. She was a member of the Silver Belles, who were a group of ladies who were graced with silver hair. These ladies would get together once a month for a girls-day-out. This would involve having lunch and then visiting all the specialty shops in the area. She was employed by Hartford/Royal Insurance Company from which she retired in 1996. Through this, many other friendships were established. Their relationship was such that throughout the years they also designated a specific day each month to get together for fellowship.

She has left an indelible mark of love, kindness, and generosity upon all who knew her. “Precious in the sight of God is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15.
